It is interesting that Jesus was born in a city that was called the "house of bread" and Mary laid Jesus in a manger, which is not just a stable, but rather a trough where animals would eat. Jesus said later said, "I am the bread of life ...unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man you will have no life within you." (Jn 6)

Simple Scripture on the Eucharist
We Catholics sometimes get accused of making complicated analogies when reading scriptures. Let us look at some simple Scripture passages that Catholics feel are hard to ignore when considering "the bread" of communion

I.

My Dearly Beloved Christians, from these words of our Divine Savior, it has already been proved to you, that faith is necessary for salvation.
And without faith there is no salvation. Without faith there is eternal damnation. Read your own Protestant Bible [Mark 16:16], and you will find it stronger there than in the Catholic
Bible.

Now then, what kind of faith must a man have to be saved? Will any faith do? Why, if any faith will do, the devil himself will be saved, for
the Bible says...

The following sermon is as relevant today as it was over 100 years ago when it was first preached by Father Arnold Damen, S.J. This message
was and still is a challenge to the many who pride themselves as being "Bible-and-Bible-Only Christians."

One cannot have God for his Father, who will not have the Church for his Mother, and likewise, one cannot have the Word of God for his faith
who will not have the Church for his teacher. It is the infallible teaching authority of the Church, as promised by Christ, which alone preserves God's

Saint Matthew Feastday: September 21st Patron Bankers Saint Matthew St. Matthew, one of the twelve Apostles, is the author of the first Gospel. This has been
the constant tradition of the Church and is confirmed by the Gospel itself. He was the son of Alpheus and was called to be an Apostle while sitting in the tax
collectors place at Capernaum. Before his conversion he was a publican, i.e., a tax collector by profession. He is to be identified with the "Levi"
of Mark and Luke. His apostolic activity was at first restricted to the communities of Palestine. Nothing definite is known about his later life. There is a
tradition that points to Ethiopia as his field of labor; other traditions mention of Parthia and Persia. It is uncertain whether he died a natural death or
received the crown of martyrdom. St. Matthew's Gospel was written to fill a sorely-felt want for his fellow countrymen, both believers and unbelievers. For
the former, it served as a token of his regard...
