Recently, I was shocked to see an interview of Christopher West, the Catholic Theology of the Body speaker, on Nightline, I
was shocked at the insensitivity, irreverence, and vulgarity he had when addressing the topic of marital sex. I have heard and read other people complaining of
the same thing before, but never got to see it with my own eyes. In the interview he praised Hugh Hefner (founder of Playboy and pioneer of pornography and
the Sexual Revolution) and compared him with Pope John Paul II!
This all disgusted me. He is distorting Pope John Paul II's teachings in his style of speaking. Now, recently, I found a CNA article in which the
great philosopher and theologian Dr. Alice Von Hildebran criticized Christopher West for this. Alice is the widow of the late great Dr. Dietrich Von
Hildebrand, a great German Catholic scholar, whose works was the one who inspired Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body. Here's the link of the
great article, enjoy:
Christopher West's ideas on sexuality ignore 'tremendous dangers,' Alice von Hildebrand says
There is also Franciscan Fr. Angelo Geiger critique:
Christopher West's blind spot
TOB has to be seen through Church's historical teachings
